“I love these things! Pies are easy to make and taste great. Use caution as they maintain heat for quite a while, even after after cooking. Also, definitely take care to properly season your pie iron before use. It comes with a booklet that explains that process. I seasoned mine in the oven for better control of temperature. The handles unscrew from the plates making it possible to do so. Bottom line: this is a good buy. “I bought 2 of the XL Toas-tites a little less than 10 years ago on Amazon. I have only used them on a campfire. We made "pizza" pies, breakfast sandwiches (bread with scrambled eggs, cheese, and whatever else filling), and cinnamon rolls. For the cinnamon rolls, we used 1 roll from a pre-packaged refrigerated tube. I don't remember how long on each side was cooked, but they turned out great ( flip often to prevent burning). Spread with icing after cooking.I don't know why so many reviews are negative. One review has pictures with a pie iron broken into pieces. “Design is very good. Threads on my extensions only mated after carefully threading the wooden half into the iron first, then threading into the extension. Seasoning is as expected (matches Lodge)- use a lot of oil or fat the first couple of uses. Iron faces mate well, clamp tightly with rods hooked together. It is heavier than you might expect, but I don't backpack with a 10" cast iron skillet either. I use a welding glove to support the rods nearer the iron, but a decent hot pad will do. A Harbor Freight canvas tool bag (Voyager 15"Lx6"W, SKU 32282, $8) works well as a carrying case for the disassembled iron; it could hold 3 of them, maybe 4, but you'll feel odd with one arm longer than the other. ;^).” Amazon Review by Pappy Camper
